Motion Controllers

Motion controllers, the nerves of Sodick's product.
Created to drive a linear motor as quickly and accurately as possible.

About Motion Controllers

K-SMC Sodick Motion ControlThe role of a motion controller is to control the high-speed and high-precision motion of a linear motor in accordance with instructions from a CNC unit.  Sodick holds the industrial property rights to copy and use the PID(Proportion Integration Differential Calculus) control that realizes high-speed and high-acceleration control of a linear motor, the technology for manufacturing a motion controller for a linear motor using modern control theories and software for controlling a linear motor.

Background of Development

In addition to the development of CNC units, which dictate the overall performance of a machine, it is of great importance for enhancing machining precision to give and transmit as accurate instructions as possible to the muscles (linear motors).  What is needed to calculate the motion of a linear motor accurately and transmit the calculation results to the CNC units is a motion controller.  The development of the motion controller started aiming at working out tailored units designed specifically for Sodick's products instead of modifying existing ones.  Sodick established a company for developing motion controllers in San Jose, California, the place where the world highest level of technical knowledge and information are gathered.  The company has developed various types of new motion controllers to bring about technical innovations to the electrical discharge machining technology of Sodick, and is continuing R&D activities for the next generation of Sodick's machines.
